Weekly COVID-19 Report – Eight new deaths; 847 new cases

PIERRE, S.D. – The South Dakota Department of Health reported 847 new cases of COVID-19 over the past week.

In their weekly report, health officials noted 616 active cases and 72 hospitalizations. There were 41 new hospitalizations reported this week.

Eight new deaths sent the state’s death toll since the pandemic began to 3,096.

Across the Black Hills area, there were 123 new cases reported, covering November 16th through the 22nd.

Pennington County accounted for 67 of them with Meade and Fall River County each reporting 13.

Lawrence County reported 10 new cases, Oglala Lakota County had 11, Butte County listed 6 and Custer County showed 3.

The case underscores the question of who is responsible for emergency health care costs of migrant workers in South Dakota and other states where thousands of permitted seasonal workers are on farms and ranches.
