Weekly COVID-19 update – six new deaths with 1,438 new cases reported

PIERRE, S.D. – South Dakota health officials reported 1,438 new cases of COVID-19 in their weekly report issued today.

Active cases of the virus dropped from 4,308 last week to 4,210 this week.

Hospitalizations decreased from 102 last week to 94 this week.

There were six new deaths reported, sending the state’s death toll to 2,979. Of those new deaths, two were out of Pennington County and one was out of Lawrence County. Pennington County now has 354 COVID-19 – related deaths and Lawrence County has 86.

Pennington County had the most new cases in the Black Hills area this week, reporting 258. Meade County had the second highest amount with 72.

Lawrence County had 58 new cases and Butte County added 21.

Elsewhere, Custer County reported 24, Fall River County had 11 and Oglala Lakota County listed 66 new cases.
