SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – West Central won their fifth Girl’s State “B” Softball title in a row Sunday with a shutout win over Madison.
West Central broke a scoreless tie in the third inning with three runs and never looked back, shutting out the Bulldogs 11-0 to claim their eighth State B Championship and fifth in a row.
The Trojans pounded out 12 hits led by Joc Nilson’s three hits and three RBI. Sammie Mallinger also had a pair of hits and RBI and did all the work on the mound, striking out 12 while allowing just three hits.
The Sturgis Scoopers put up a good run at this year’s tournament, making it to the semifinals, where they lost to West Central. The Scoopers, who worked their way to the West Central matchup with a 7-2 win over Vermillion, brought home third place with a win in the consolation bracket.
Meanwhile, at the State A Softball Tournament, the Harrisburg Tigers defeated Sioux Falls Lincoln for the championship with a 12-2 win in the second championship game of the double-elimination tournament.
