West River athletes open Track and Field season at West River Preview

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Area athletes opened up the Track and Field season Friday as the West River Preview was held in Rapid City.

Sturgis Scooper Aiden Hedderman won two events, the 110 meter hurdles and the pole vault. His teammate, Nathanael Jones captured the 300 meter hurdles.

Simeon Birnbaum of Rapid City Stevens captured two events, winning the 800 and the 1600. His teammate Landon Matkins won the 200 and Raider Cale Meisman captured the 400.

Spearfish also had a good day. Jaden Guthmiller won the 100 meters and Sam Marcus captured the javelin.

For Rapid City Central, Isaac Flanegan won the long jump and triple jump. Will Paepke won the shot put and Conner Warren captured the discus.

On the girls’ side, Anna Hoffman of Spearfish captured three events – the 200 meter dash, 100 meter hurdles and 300 meter hurdles.

Brionno Holson of Rapid City Stevens won the 800 and the 1,600. Her teammate Brooklyn Jurgens won the 100 and Josie Tobin of Spearfish captured the 400.

Stevens also fared well in field events as Rebecca Theis took the long jump and triple jump, Isabell Higgins won the shot put and Brynn Nelson captured the javelin.

Gretchen Adamski of Spearfish took the pole vault title and Sophie Baumeister of Rapid City Central won the discus throw.
