West River Preview opens track and field season for area athletes

UNDATED – The West River Preview opened up the track and field season for area athletes on Saturday.

On the boys side, there were a handful of multi-event winners.

Justin Juniel of Rapid City Stevens won the 100 and 200 meter dash. Keenan Urdiales of Spearfish captured the 800 and 1,600 meters. Ridge Inhofer of Sturgis won the 400 meters.

Overall, the Stevens Raiders saw a good start to the season, as they recorded seven top finishes.

They included Ben Goldy winning the shot put, a 20′ 11″ long jump by Killian Peterson, a 41.72 second 300m hurdle run by Tanner Lunders, a 15.99 second 110m hurdle run by Tanner Lunders, and a 9 minute and 14 second 3200m run by Simeon Birnbaum.

On the girls side, Stevens got wins from Ella Bradeen in the 100, Baylee Van Zee in the 200, Carsyn Mettler in the 400 and Brionna Holso in the 800. Peyton VanDeest of Spearfish captured the 1,600.

Van Zee also captured the 100 meter hurdles for Stevens with Anna Hoffman of Spearfish winning the 300 meter hurdles.

Along with Ridge Inhofer, Lexi Long added another win for Sturgis, capturing the shot put with a throw of 32-09.00.

Rapid City Central’s Matayah Yellow Mule had a great first outing. She took convincing wins in the triple jump and high jump, along with a solid performance in the 200 meter dash.
