SIOUX FALLS, SD – Governor Kristi Noem has proclaimed Friday, October 15 as White Cane Safety Day in South Dakota.
State Human Services Secretary Shawnie Rechtenbaugh says the day serves as a reminder of how important the white cane is for giving blind and visually impaired people more independence.
Motorists are reminded that they are required to stop for any individual using a white cane or being assisted by a guide dog to allow them to safely cross the street.
