Whiteout conditions, accidents close I-90 east of Rapid City

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Travel got hazardous on I-90 and other area roads today as light snow, gusty winds and bitter cold temperatures greeted travelers.

No travel advisories are out for I-90 from the Wyoming line out towards Wall and many area roads, including South Dakota Highway 34 east of Sturgis, Highway 79 to Newell and Highway 85 north of Spearfish.

I-90 between Ellsworth and Wall is closed Wednesday afternoon due to a jackknifed truck. The highway patrol also reported multiple vehicle accidents both westbound and eastbound blocking all lanes of travel.

Travelers along the busy corridor reported near whiteout conditions.

There were also no travel advisories for out Pennington County and portions of Meade County.
