WHITEWOOD, S.D. – A Whitewood area family had their home significantly damaged by fire on Thanksgiving Day.
In a Facebook Post, Kevin and Alicia Rhoades say it appears a grill started the fire. The family writes the grill was set to “clean” mode and it malfunctioned starting the fire.
In photos shared by the family, the fire appears to have heavily damaged the back half of the home.
The family writes they are “heartbroken and speechless,” but grateful no one was hurt.
Whitewood’s Fire Chief says no fire hydrants were near the home, so fire crews were forced to use water tenders to transport water from Whitewood to the fire scene.
Whitewood Fire were among the first on the scene and aided by Lawrence County Sheriff, Whitewood Police and E.M.S., St Onge Fire, Sturgis Fire, Spearfish Fire, Highway Patrol, and Whitewood and Spearfish Auxiliary.
