Wide Load – house moved through Sturgis Tuesday morning

STURGIS, S.D. – A home that was heavily damaged when a semi-truck and trailer crashed into it last summer was moved from its location on Dickson Drive to a new location east of Sturgis Tuesday.

Sturgis Police, the Meade County Sheriff’s Office and Sturgis Public Works were among the agencies helping out in the event today.

The home traveled down Junction Avenue to Lazelle Street, where officials had to block traffic so the truck carrying the home could make the turn.

Once the home made the corner, the truck stopped on Lazelle so officials could make sure the home didn’t shift too much during the turn. Crews then had to shut down the “S” curves to get the home through some more twists and turns.

The home eventually was back on the straightaway and headed east on Highway 34.

The home fell victim to a semi truck that veered off I-90 on August 10th of last year and crashed into it. The female driver of the semi and a passenger received minor injuries in the crash. The 74-year-old homeowner was not injured.
