William Edward Buckley, 77, passed away December 1, 2024, at Fort Meade VA Medical Center.
Bill was born on May 11, 1947, to Francis and Joyce (Ramsdell) Buckley in Brookings, South Dakota. He had three brothers, Jack, Steve and Dan and one sister, Jenny. His mother passed away in 1963 and his father passed in 1993.
He attended grade school for two years in Camby, Minnesota before transferring to Gettysburg, South Dakota where he went on to graduate high school. Bill attended one year of college at SDSU in Brookings and two years at NSU in Aberdeen.
Bill joined the US Army in 1967 and proudly served in Vietnam. After being wounded in the war he was honorably discharged after two serving two years.
He worked in the construction business pouring concrete foundations and other things for 35 years.
Bill favorite childhood memories are hunting with his dad and brothers. He enjoyed hunting pheasants, elk, deer, ducks, and geese. Bill also enjoyed fishing.
He was a member of the DAV.
Bill met his best friend, Bonnie out dancing one night. They have one son, Nathaniel and one grandson, Ryker.
Bill’s words of wisdom for others are “work hard – it’s not a free ride out there.”
Inurnment was held Monday, December 9, 2024, at Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis.
