Family of Five loses everything in wildfire near Sundance

SUNDANCE, Wyo. —The American Red Cross is assisting a family of five who lost their home to a wildfire Saturday night in northeast Wyoming.

The fire burned through the Halverson home, and the family lost everything. An account has been set up for the Halverson family at the Sundance State Bank in Sundance, Wyoming.

Fire crews responded to the fire near Sand Creek and Rifle Pit Road where gusty winds were carrying the fire quickly. Crook County Emergency Management says the fire was located approximately 11 miles northeast of Sundance and was estimated to have burned just under 150 acres.

SUNDANCE, Wyo. – Fire crews in northeast Wyoming are battling a wildfire near Sand Creek and Rifle Pit Road.

According to a Facebook post from Crook County Emergency Management, the Rifle Pit Ranch Fire is located approximately 11 miles northeast of Sundance and is estimated to be 100 acres in size as of late Saturday night.

One home has reportedly been lost to the blaze, and high winds are making it difficult to battle the fire.
