RAPID CITY, S.D. -Easter Weekend won’t feel much like spring as a potent winter type storm is moving into the area.
The National Weather Service says a strong storm system will move into the region Saturday.
Snow will begin Saturday and persist into Sunday morning before tapering off.
The heaviest snow will be from Saturday afternoon into Saturday night. Snow totals of 6 to 9 inches are expected across far southern South Dakota, with amounts over a foot possible across the Black Hills.
Some upslope enhancement could produce 9 to 12 inches of snowfall across the foot hills from the Spearfish to Sturgis areas.
The remainder of the plains areas should see 3 to 7 inches of snow. Breezy northerly winds will also support areas of blowing and drifting snow late Saturday night into Sunday.
