Winter Weather Advisory for northern hills Wednesday

STURGIS, S.D. – Forecasters have a Winter Weather Advisory out today for the Northern Black Hills as a strong clipper system moves through the area.

The system will support moderate to locally heavy upslope snow over the Northern Black Hills through the afternoon into this evening.

Snow amounts will be mostly elevation dependent, with 4 to 7 inches generally expected at elevations above 5,000 feet and up to 4 inches across lower elevations

Gusty northwest winds will also support some patchy blowing snow.

At 11:00 a.m., Sturgis was tapping into the snow, as a heavy snowfall was being reported.

Lead-Deadwood, Sundance and Four Corners are under the Winter Weather Advisory.
