Winter weather leads to cancellation of Sturgis vs Douglas game

STURGIS, S.D. – The winter storm that led to school closings and road closures today has led to the cancellation of the Sturgis Scooper vs Douglas boys basketball game.

The game was scheduled for tonight at Box Elder.

However, due to time constraints, the game will not be made up.

Next weekend is the SoDak round of 16, and teams will need to be finished with their regular season schedule by Monday. The Scoopers round out the regular season on Monday with home games vs Rapid City Central.

The Scooper boys are currently sitting in 16th — the last spot available for the SoDak Round of 16.

In an email this morning, Sturgis Athletic Director Todd Palmer issued the following statement about the cancellation of tonight’s game:

“A number of reason have gone into making this decision and I have gathered information/input from numerous stakeholders in the situation. There are always going to be differing decisions/opinions when making a decision like this, but taking everything into consideration I feel comfortable with this decision. Thank you for your understanding.”

Up next for the Scooper boys and girls is a double-header Thursday night at Rapid City Stevens.
