STURGIS, S.D. – A bout of winter weather lead to icy roads and accidents across the area today.
In Sturgis, multiple vehicles were involved in a pile up on I-90, at Exit 30.
The accident around 2:00 p.m., happend on the eastbound lane, involving at least two semi trucks who had hit each other, as well as several other vehicles.
Meade County Emergency Management reported at least 12 vehicles were involved in the accident including five tractor trailers one delivery truck, three pick up trucks, and three cars
One semi ended up halfway down an embankment east of the bridge at Exit 30. Eastbound I-90 travelers were being routed off the Interstate at Exit 30.
The accident was still being cleaned up Monday afternoon and there was no immediate word on injuries.
Several area law enforcement agencies were on scene, including highway patrol, Meade County Sheriff, Sturgis Police and Sturgis EMS.
Highway officials report I-90 was icy around the Black Hills with wind blown snow and even some freezing drizzle.
In the upper elevations of the Black Hills, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 5:00 p.m. Monday evening.
