Wintry weather leads to no travel advisories, accidents

STURGIS, S.D. – Wintry weather again made driving difficult across the area Thursday morning.

Wind and snow combined to make roads treacherous and visibility poor as some schools decided to start two hours late.

I-90 eastbound from Ellsworth Air Force Base was shut down after the highway patrol reported several accidents – one of which was a semi-truck lying on its side blocking the roadway.

Several reports of cars sliding into ditches were being handled by the patrol and local law enforcement, including an S.U.V. that rolled over in the median between Spearfish and Whitewood.

SD511 reported wind blowing snow across the road was making driving treacherous and law enforcement was encouraging travelers to slow down for the poor conditions.

No Travel Advisories that were issued Thursday morning had been lifted by 11:00 a.m. Thursday.
