RAPID CITY, S.D. – Rapid City Police are investigating the latest report of shots being fired, which were reported just after 10:30 Wednesday night.
Police they were dispatched to 1821 N. Elk Vale Road for the gunshots report and learned upon arrival that the suspect responsible was wearing a construction vest.
While driving through the parking lot at 3333 Outfitter Road, police observed a male wearing a high-visibility construction vest. He was identified as 22-year-old Adrien Waupoose of Keshena, WI, and officers noted he was exhibiting signs of alcohol impairment.
Video recovered from area showed the male suspect leave a store before firing a handgun into the air. Waupoose was positively identified as the suspect in the video responsible for the shooting.
A detective arrived on scene to speak with Waupoose.
At the conclusion of the interview, it was determined he discarded the firearm in a nearby field after the incident.
Police were able to recover the handgun, and Waupoose was placed under arrest for Reckless Discharge of a Firearm, and Possession of a Loaded Firearm While Intoxicated. He was subsequently transported to the Pennington County Jail.
