RAPID CITY, S.D.– Rapid City Police officers responded to a call regarding a crash Wednesday night around 7:30 p.m. at the intersection of Main Street and Mt. Rushmore Road. Officers reported multiple vehicles involved, including a white Dodge mini-van. Bystanders on the scene were working to remove an unconscious passenger from the vehicle, with the driver found nearby. Officers began tending to injuries sustained by both parties before speaking to witnesses.
According to witnesses interviewed by officers, the vehicle was seen travelling North on Mt. Rushmore Road at a high speed before running through a red light and crashing into a Honda SUV going westbound on Main Street. The SUV then hit a nearby Jeep in the aftermath of the initial collision and the Dodge minivan proceeded to hit a Toyota minivan.
Officers identified the driver as 35-year-old Clevia Womack of Rapid City, and after investigation determined she had been too impaired to operate a motor vehicle. Womack was placed under arrest for DUI (her sixth offense), failure to obey a traffic signal, and reckless driving.
