WATERTOWN, SD – A 65-year-old woman is in custody after allegedly shooting her husband in the face.
Police were called to an apartment complex on the 10 block of 3rd St. SW in Watertown at approximately 6:30pm Wed., Aug. 4 for a reported gunshot wound. Officers arrived on-scene and located Randy Tormanen who had been shot in the face. The victim sustained serious life threatening injuries and was transferred to Sanford in Sioux Falls for more advanced medical care. He is expected to recover.
Police Captain Kirk Ellis recounted the incident.
“Officers arrived and encountered Sherri Tornamen and her husband Randy Tornamen. Randy had been shot in the face by Sherri. She was taken into custody.”
Ellis was asked if police have determined the circumstances that led up to the shooting.
“No,” he replied. “That’s still ongoing at this time. I do not have a reason as to what led up to it.”
Sherri Tormanen is being held in the Codington County Jail on $100,000 cash bond. She is charged with Aggravated Assault and Reckless Discharge of a Firearm. Her bond conditions also include having no contact with the victim, and not possessing any firearms.
Ellis says a .22 caliber pistol has been recovered.
