RAPID CITY, S.D. – A woman has been sentenced for failing to pay taxes.
Josefina Leui was sentenced to 5 years probation, with 8 months of electronic monitoring, for failure to pay over $168,000 in taxes.
Leui has not paid employee withholding to the IRS since 2017. After calculating interest she owes over $400,000 to the IRS, and $168,759 in restitution.
Leui was sentenced on the lower side of the advisory range for this case because she has tried to settle her debts by paying nearly $60,000 in restitution and $70,000 to the IRS as of Aug. 29.
As a special condition of her sentence, she is to make monthly $1,500 payments in restitution and keep up to date on her payments to the IRS.
