RAPID CITY, S.D. – A Rapid City woman has been sentenced to 15 years in prison with five suspended for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Daya Returns From Scout, 22, was originally charged with attempted murder, but she pleaded guilty to aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in October when she admitted to stabbing Clement Howard with a knife in July of last year.
Prosecutors had stated they believed the two were arguing when the stabbing occurred.
Before being sentenced, Returns From Scout told the court she wants a chance to be there for her two children, but Judge Robert Gusinsky told the courtroom Returns From Scout is a “severe danger to the community.”
