Women sentenced for providing lethal dose of fentanyl

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Two Rapid City women have been sentenced to 20 years each in prison in connection with a fentanyl related death.

Christian Sanchez, 25, and Katey McGruder, 35, were both convicted of conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance resulting in death.

They were accused of providing a lethal dose of fentanyl that killed a person who took it in April of 2022.

Another suspect involved in the case, Wyatt Nygaard, was previously sentenced to 23 years for directly giving the fentanyl to the victim, who died in the parking lot of a convenience store.

Sanchez and McGruder both pleaded guilty in May of this year after being indicted by a grand jury in June of last year.
