FORT PIERRE, S.D. – In a game played at Stanley Couty High School, both Yankton girls and boys basketball teams coasted to wins over Sturgis.
The Gazelles outscored the Scoopers 26-14 in the first half, and continued their hot streak in the second half; cruising to a 53-29 win.
Ellie Karolevitz led the Gazelles with 14 points and Morgan Strahl added 11.
Sarah Janz led Sturgis with 8 points.
In the boys game, the Bucks cruised to a 58-29 victory, outscoring Sturgis 16-7 in the opening quarter and increasing their lead to 32-13 at the half.
Matthew Mors led Yankton with 15 points. With a secure lead in hand, Mors would have scored more, but gave way to the second and third stringers midway through the third quarter.
Mors was the only player in double figures in a well balanced Yankton attack.
Marcus Myrick led Sturgis with 11 points.
