Yellow Jacket Women Match Best-Ever Start to RMAC Play with Victory Over MSU Denver

SPEARFISH, S.D.For just the second time ever, the Black Hills State University women’s basketball team has begun RMAC play 6-0, matching the best start to league play in program history with a 63-49 victory over MSU Denver on Saturday afternoon in A2 Arena. The Green & Gold previously began conference play 6-0 in 2015-16, the year the Yellow Jackets earned their first-ever NCAA Division II Tournament bid.

Despite a after a tightly contested first quarter, the Yellow Jackets only trailed for a total of 46 seconds, and they eventually began to create separation with a 19-5 scoring run to enter the halftime break and extended the run in the opening minutes of the third quarter with nine unanswered points to make it a 28-5 rally. BHSU was led by three players in double figures, including Bradie Schlabs who posted her second career double-double with a career-high 21 points while adding ten rebounds.

SPEARFISH, S.D. – The second career double-double for redshirt-freshman Cam Lowe kept the Black Hills State University men’s basketball team’s upset bid alive a majority of the night against No. 22/RV MSU Denver, however, it wasn’t enough as the Roadrunners came away with an 84-77 victory. The battle of RMAC contenders on Saturday afternoon in A2 Arena saw the Yellow Jackets battle back from an 11-point second half deficit to tie the game at 57 apiece with 13:01 to play with a 15-4 scoring run and then once again at 74 apiece with 3:08 remaining following a 9-0 run, but MSUD closed the match-up with a 10-3 rally of their own to remain one of two undefeated teams in league play through six contests.

In other area action, the South Dakota Mines’ Women’s basketball team got their second win of the season with a 64-62 thrilling victory over Colorado Mines.

The Mines’ Men lost to Colorado Mines’ by the score of 72-57.
