A 15-year-old and 4-year-old killed in weekend separate crashes

SELBY, S.D. – A 15-year-old female died Sunday afternoon in an ATV crash southeast of Selby.

The name of the deceased has not yet been released pending notification of family members. She was the only person involved.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol says a 2017 Polaris Ranger XP 900 EPS ATV was northbound on 308th Avenue, which is a gravel road, when the driver lost control. The vehicle rolled and the driver was thrown from the ATV. She was pronounced dead at the scene. She was not wearing a helmet.

South Dakota’s Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash.

Meanwhile, One juvenile died and two adults were seriously injured in a one-vehicle crash Sunday night east of Pierre.

Names of those involved have not yet been released pending notification of family members.

A 2000 Nissan Maxima was northbound on West Bend Road when it left the roadway and went into the east ditch. Two of the three occupants were ejected from the vehicle. None of the occupants were wearing seat belts.

One passenger, a 4-year-old male, was pronounced dead at the Pierre hospital. The female driver and the second male passenger received serious non-life threatening injuries.

Charges are pending against the driver.

South Dakota’s Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash.
