Annual Firecracker Tournament opens Wednesday in Rapid City

RAPID CITY, S.D. – The annual Firecracker Tournament will get started today (Wednesday) in Rapid City – albeit a little smaller due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Eden Prairie, Minn., and Terre Haute, Ind., both dropped out of the tournament, which begins Wednesday at 2:30 p.m., making it a six-team field with 18 games in the five-day tournament.

Rapid City Post 22 head coach Kelvin Torve said that despite seeing the field drop from eight to six teams, it is going to be a competitive field, and it will be a fun tournament.

The Hardhats, 14-5, open Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. against the Rocky Mountain Lobos of Ft. Collins, Colo.

The other teams competing will be Gillette, Wyo., the Missoula, Mont., Mavericks and two other Colorado teams from Sterling and Premier West of the Denver area.

Wednesday’s Games

2:30 p.m. – Missoula vs Premier West

5:00 p.m. – Sterling vs Rocky Mt.

7:30 p.m. – Post 22 vs Rocky Mt.
