HOT SPRINGS, S.D. – A 50-year-old Hot Springs, S.D., woman has been identified as the person who died late Saturday night in a two-vehicle crash northeast of Hot Springs.
Preliminary crash information indicates that a 2020 Harley-Davidson Street Glide motorcycle was southbound on South Dakota Highway 79 when the motorcycle struck a deer that had run onto the roadway. The motorcycle operator was thrown from the motorcycle into the southbound driving lane. She was then struck by a southbound 2019 Honda Pilot which could not avoid hitting her.
Deanna Elmquist, who was not wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene. Darryl Anderson of Gillette, WY., 70, was the driver of the Honda. He was wearing a seat belt and was not injured.
No charges are pending.
South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
