The South Dakota Department of Human Services held its annual Governor’s Awards in a ceremony at the State Capitol Rotunda in Pierre Monday. The awards recognize achievements of both individuals with disabilities and employers and other who work with those people. Governor Kristi Noem says South Dakota is a leader for creating opportunities for those with disabilities.
The awards come on the heels of October and Disability Employment Awareness Month and Noem says and number of groups and businesses showed their support.
Noem says she will continue to make sure employment opportunities are available for the disabled.
Seven awards were given out including the Distinguished Service Award to Nancy Schlichenmayer of Pierre, the Outstanding Private Employer to Cammack Ranch Supply of Union Center and the Outstanding Transition Services Award to Carolyn Schuldies of Sturgis.
