STURGIS, S.D. – Bitterly cold temperatures have descended upon the area, and winter weather and wind chill advisories remain in effect today.
For the Winter Weather Advisory this morning, forecaster say to expect snow, with additional snow accumulations of up to one inch with wind chills as low as 40 below zero.
For the Wind Chill Advisory this afternoon through Wednesday morning, very cold wind chills are expected. Wind chills could be as low as 35 below zero.
Plan on slippery road conditions with areas of blowing snow on the South Dakota plains which could significantly reduce visibility. The dangerously cold wind chills could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes.

The cold weather is causing infrastructure problems here in Sturgis.
Sturgis Public Works says they are working on repairing a water main break at the intersection of Cedar Street and Edmunds Street in the area of Sturgis Williams Middle School.
According to Public Works, homes in this area will be without water service while repairs are being made. The water main break has also lead to the closure of Sturgis Williams Middle School Tuesday.
The weather conditions are expected to slow repairs and homeowners in the area are urged to be patient.
