Bridge on Nemo Road shut down after partial collapse

NEMO, S.D. – A partial bridge collapse on Nemo Road has closed down the bridge and resulted in a detour.

The highway patrol responded to the incident after a semi truck had crossed over it and one lane of the bridge partially collapsed.

The partial collapse has closed a portion of Nemo Road. A detour that uses Norris Peak Road to Highway 44 to Highway 385 to Merrit Estes Road has been set up.

An engineer on scene recommended shutting down the bridge rather than using the one lane.

Joe Miller, highway superintendent for Pennington County, anticipates a several month effort to repair the bridge. He says the bridge was not on the county’s schedule to be replaced or have any rehabilition done.
