Budget, design option concerns push back council decision on Adventure Park

STURGIS, S.D. – The Sturgis City Council met for their first meeting in June Monday night and briefly discussed the Sturgis Adventure Park.

The council had considered making a decision on one of three design options for the lakeside adventure park, but Sturgis Mayor Mark Carstensen says council has decided to gather more information.

Mayor Carstensen also says they have a procedural situation to work through.

There are also some concerns with the three design options that have been voiced by the Sturgis Lakeside Adventure Park group, including parking and the size of the lake itself.

Initially, the group had hoped for a lake size of 3-4 acres. However, in the designs, the lake size is 2.2 to 2.95 acres. The group is concerned there would not be enough room for proposed amenities and attractions in the lake.
