Clarkson, VanDeest win Black Hills Conference Cross Country Championships

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Rapid City hosted the Black Hills Conference Cross Country Championships on a foggy, cold afternoon Thursday.

Winning the boys race was Sawyer Clarkson of Belle Fourche in a time of 15:18.34. His teammate, Lane Krautschun, finished in second with a time of 15:54.23.

Luke Rupert of Hill City was third, Peyton Cast of Douglas was fourth and Gage Grohs of Custer came in fifth.

Belle Fourche won the team title with Hill City second and Sturgis third. Top placing Scooper was Deron Graf in eighth.

Winning the girls race was Peyton VanDeest of Spearfish in a time of 18:26.65. Custer’s Ramsey Karim was second in a time of 19:23.03. Kori Keil of Spearfish was third, Auna Taglioli, also of Spearfish was fourth and Kira Ubence of Douglas was fifth.

Spearfish captured the girls team title with Sturgis second and Custer third. Top placing Scooper was Brinna Sheldon in sixth.
