STURGIS, S.D. – Great Plains Fire Dispatch says the cold weather and snow cover are allowing crews to catch up on pile burning around the Black Hills.
The Black Hat and Bear Mountain Handcrews began burning approximately 140 slash piles in the Boulder Canyon area Tuesday and will continue today.
Crews will continue to tend and monitor slash piles until they are dead out.
Smoke may be visible for several days in the surrounding areas.
