COVID-19 cases up 89 in Wednesday report

PIERRE, S.D. – It was an active day for new COVID-19 cases across the state as the health department reported 89 new cases, with 26 of them across western South Dakota.

Pennington County reported 10 new cases, sending their cumulative total to 858 with 120 active cases. Despite the 10 new cases, recoveries outpaced new ones as the active caseload was down 3 from yesterday to 120.

Meade County reported 4 new cases Wednesday. Meade has reported 8 new cases so far this week, just as the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally is set to get under way. The county’s cumulative total rose to 82 today with the active number of cases up 3 to 19.

Lawrence County recorded three new positive COVID-19 tests in the Wednesday report. Lawrence has 35 total with 9 currently active.

Other black hills area counties reporting new cases were Butte and Oglala Lakota County, who reported one new case each. Fall River County reported 2 new cases.

The statewide active number of cases is up 16 today to 951.

The number of people hospitalized rose one to 43.

The state’s total number of COVID-19 related deaths is 137 after a new death was reported today.

The new death was a man in the age range 70-79. The death was reported in Davison County.

A total of 993 new test results were reported on Wednesday.
