UNDATED – The second day of action at the South Dakota Girls’ State Basketball Tournament wrapped up Friday.
In the B tournament, Faith lost a heartbreaker to DeSmet in double overtime 52-50. The Bulldogs jumped out to a quick 16-7 lead over the Longhorns, but Faith battled back, outscoring DeSmet 11-8 in the second. The two teams remained close the rest of the way, and it came down to free throws giving DeSmet the win.
Kaycee Groves had a remarkable game for Faith, scoring 31 points and pulling down 8 rebounds.
Faith will play for third place Saturday evening.
Meanwhile, the Wall Eagles were hoping to get a victory after losing their opening round game to Faith and earn a trip to the fifth place game Saturday.
The Eagles got off to a slow start, but battled back, only to fall short in a 60-56 loss to Aberdeen Christian.
At the State A Tournament, St Thomas More is headed for another championship game, defeating top seeded Wagner 48-35. Reese Ross led the Cavalier charge with 23 points. They will play Hamlin who defeated West Central 52-38.
Also at the A Tournament, in the consolation round, Red Cloud broke the game open by outscoring Lakota Tech 17-7 in the second quarter en route to a 64-44 victory.
The Lady Crusaders were led by Stevie Fallis’ 27 points and 6 rebounds. Red Cloud plays for fifth place Saturday.
At the AA Tournament, Rapid City Stevens won their semifinal game over Sioux Falls Jefferson, 54-43. Bailey Sobczak led Stevens with 17 points. They head to the championship game, where they face Sioux Falls O”Gorman on Saturday night.
Earlier in the day, Sioux Falls Washington rolled over Rapid City Central in consolation play 46-33.
