STURGIS, S.D. – As the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally entered day two Saturday, Sturgis Police and the Meade County Sheriff’s Office released their latest numbers compiled from the first day of the rally.
For Sturgis Police, parking remains one of the top problems. Chief Geody Vandewater reported 16 parking violations Friday compared to 13 on day one last year.
There were 9 D-U-I arrests and 8 misdemeanor drug arrests. There were 5 felony drug arrests reported.
Two fight calls had been reported and there were eight license plate or registration violations.
Vandewater says police handed out three speeding tickets, cited two people for a stop sign violation and there were four open container in a vehicle violations.
The Meade County Sherrif’s Office says they had 139 calls for service for the latest reporting period. Meade County Sheriff Pat West says there were 8 D-U-I arrests, 2 simple assault arrests and one drug arrest. In total throughout the county, 37 people were booked into the Meade County Jail. The same period last year, 24 people were booked into the jail.
