PIERRE, S.D. — The South Dakota Department of Corrections has confirmed that an inmate at the Mike Durfee State Prison has died from complications due to COVID-19.
This is the first recorded COVID-19 death in a SD DOC facility among staff or inmates.
779 of the 1,870 cumulative positive COVID-19 cases among South Dakota inmates have been at the Mike Durfee State Prison, the highest inmate numbers of any state facility.
