Education Dept. Secretary – new programs should help ease teacher shortage

PIERRE, S.D. – South Dakota Education Department Secretary Joe Graves says some new programs should help ease the teacher shortage.

He told the Board of Education Standards yesterday (Monday) that the student teacher rules changes are in motion.

Graves says that could give districts more flexibility in staffing for special education.

Graves says the news apprenticeship program is taking applications.

Graves says that program will be offered through Northern State and Dakota State Universities.
