Elementary students in Lemmon will learn long-distance due to COVID-19 exposure

LEMMON, S.D.  – School officials in Lemmon have closed in-class learning after one week of schools reopening.

The districts 121 K-6 students will stay home in the coming weeks because of exposure to four  elementary staff members who tested positive for coronavirus.

According to Lemmon School District Superintendent Steve Bucks, expectations were that such an occurrence would happen eventually but he didn’t expect it to materialize so quickly.

Bucks said over the next few days, teachers will prepare materials and lesson plans in order to begin online learning for K-5 students on the last day of August. In-class learning is set to resume September 7.

Students in middle and high school will continue in-person classes.
