RAPID CITY, S.D. – Fire crews battled high winds and dry conditions in knocking down a wildfire on Marvel Mountain early Sunday morning.
According to Meade County Emergency Management, firefighters were called to Marvel Mountain Road at around 1:45 a.m. to battle a wildland fire. The area is located about 2-and-a-half miles north of Rapid City, to the east of Black Hawk.
Black Hawk Fire Department was the incident command for at least 10 departments who responded.
The fire threatened several structure as crews worked to contain the fire with winds gusting up to 60 miles-per-hour at times.
Fire crews announced they had the fire mostly contained at an approximate 2 acres by 8:00 a.m.
There is no word on the cause of the fire.
