Fire crews battle wind driven fire near Deadwood

DEADWOOD, S.D. – Rain and snow were a welcome sight Saturday morning in helping firefighters battle an overnight fire near Deadwood.

The Two Bit Springs Fire was reported Friday night in the Two Bit Springs area southeast of Deadwood. The fire was being fanned by very strong winds.

The fire led to the evacuation of some homes in the area.

Officials say the fire is 60-percent contained as of Saturday morning and remained at 10 acres.

There have been no reports of injuries or homes lost to the fire and its cause was under investigation.

STURGIS, S.D. – Very high winds were causing some problems for firefighters and law enforcement Friday night.

Firefighters in the Deadwood area were sent to a fire that was burning in the timber in the Two Bit Springs area. Pictures of the fire were being posted on the Black Hills Citizen Storm and Weather Report.

Witnesses in the area reported very strong winds fanning the flames and some evacuations of homes in the immediate area. Public Fire Information Website indicates the fire at 10 acres.

Fire crews remained on the scene of that fire as of 11:00 p.m.

The strong winds also brought down a large tree branch on Evans Lane in Spearfish. That large branch reportedly brought some powerlines down with it and Spearfish Fire was called in.They were re-routing traffic around the downed tree branch as of 11:00 p.m.

Sturgis fire crews responded to a chimney fire in Blucksberg Friday night, but as of 11:00 p.m., that fire was out.

The National Weather Service has a High Wind Warning in effect until 2:00 a.m. Saturday morning. A Wind Advisory will be in effect of much of Saturday.
