PIEDMONT, S.D. — A Monday afternoon fire destroyed a camper in which four people were staying at Piedmont.
Authorities were sent to the fire near Jack’s Campers on Sturgis Road late Monday afternoon. Firefighters were able to extinguish the flames and kept the fire from spreading to other campers nearby.
No injuries were reported and the four people were receiving help from the American Red Cross.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, although Meade County Emergency Management says it may have been electrical in nature.
It wasn’t the only fire keeping firefighters busy Monday.
Fire crews in Jackson County were aided by Pennington County crews as a blaze heavily damaged a home on 206th Avenue. First arriving firefighters found a free burning fire creating heavy smoke and visible flames in the interior of the structure.
Crews battled extremely cold weather in fighting the fire, but kept it from spreading.
No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire was under investigation.
The American Red Cross was assisting the displaced residents.
