STURGIS, S.D. – For a second day in a row, severe weather roared across western South Dakota, and this time, targeted Belle Fourche with wind driven baseball to softball sized hail.
Residents in the Butte County town say on social media the storm left widespread damage in its wake.
Many cars and trucks are totaled, windows are broken and homes have suffered serious damage.
Photos and videos being posted on social media showed the extent of the damage as the storm rolled in from northeast Wyoming.
The National Weather Service initially flagged the storm as a tornado warning in northeast Wyoming, but once the tornado threat waned, it was changed to a severe thunderstorm warning as it crossed the border and headed towards Belle Fourche.
Belle Fourche resident Jamie Van Norman shared photos on Facebook of her car windows broken out, broken windows in her home and part of a fence that blew over.

Once the storm passed Belle Fourche, it continued on a southeasterly path, prompting warnings into eastern Butte County and Meade County. A storm report out of Fruitdale indicated hail near the size of baseballs. Similar sized hail was also reported in Elm Springs.
A separate thunderstorm cell dropped large hail on Deadwood, Whitewood and Sturgis.
Southwest Sturgis got hail up to the size of golf balls and in Whitewood, there were reports of larger hail.
Out towards Philip, a town that had already got hit hard Saturday night by severe weather, a tornado warning was issued Sunday night.
Just before 8:00 p.m., a volunteer firefighter reported a tornado eight miles northeast of Philip.
As of Sunday night, no injuries had been reported as of yet from the severe weather.
