STURGIS, S.D. – The number of active cases of COVID-19 continued their upward trend Friday as another 259 new positive tests for the virus were reported by the state Department of Health.
The state’s active caseload is up another 19 today to 3,032. Of concern, was a spike in the number of hospitalizations as the state saw an increase of 13 today. There are now 89 people hospitalized due to COVID-19 – up from Thursday’s 76.
There was also a new COVID-19 related death reported Friday. The new death was a male in the 80+ age range in Minnehaha County.
Around the Black Hills, Pennington County added another 24 new cases, sending the cumulative total to 1,560 with 442 of them remaining active.
Lawrence County added another dozen new cases, giving them a total of 252 with 116 active.
In Meade County, 8 new cases were reported, sending the county cumulative total to 332 and 136 remain active. The active cases are down 5 in Meade Friday.
Other new cases around the region include 2 in Fall River and one each in Custer County and Oglala Lakota County.
A total of 1,756 new persons tested was reported on Friday.
