STURGIS, S.D. – Weather in South Dakota can change in the blink of an eye, and that’s being proven as a system moved in Monday, dropping temperatures 70-plus degrees.
Saturday in South Dakota saw temperatures over 100 in places, and by Monday night, those temperatures dropped into the 30’s and 40’s.
Forecasters have the season’s first Winter Storm Warning in effect for the upper elevations of the Black Hills.
The National Weather Service says widespread precipitation will occur Monday tonight through Tuesday morning. Unseasonably cold air will lead to heavy snow over the higher Black Hills and over parts of southern Campbell County in northeastern Wyoming.
There is a possibility of 4 to 10 inches of snow.
Cold rain is expected for most of the surrounding foothills and plains Monday night and into Tuesday, where temperatures will remain only in the 40’s. Forecasters are expecting a widespread freeze Wednesday morning.
Once the storm moves out, temperatures will begin a slow rebound the rest of the week, and by next weekend, will be back in the 80’s.
