Governor Noem in Sunday Facebook message – prepare for a long battle

PIERRE, S.D. – Get ready for a long battle with the COVID-19 virus.

Governor Kristi Noem told South Dakotans during a Facebook live Sunday afternoon we’re just getting started. She says health experts’ modeling puts the coronavirus peaking in May-June, with cases at that point starting to drop.

“This isn’t going away anytime soon,” she said.

Noem says this is why it’s important to “flatten the curve” so the state can ease the impact.

Earlier Sunday Noem announced seven new COVID-19 infections including six in Beadle County and one in Brown County.

Noem also said she was pleased with the City of Huron’s and Beadle County’s response to her request that they tighten social distancing and close more businesses. Beadle County has seen more cases than any other and is on the verge, according to Noem, of community spread of the virus.
