Hospitalizations see sharp increase in Tuesday COVID-19 report

PIERRE, S.D. – South Dakota Health officials reported 2,829 new COVID-19 cases Tuesday with 606 of those listed as probable. The Tuesday report includes numbers from the weekend.

The number of people hospitalized due to the virus increased by 31 Tuesday to 423. Monument Health reports 93 people under their care with 17 in the I.C.U.

Active cases of the virus dropped slightly to 36,155.

Three new deaths were reported, sending the state’s death toll to 2,609.

New cases across the Black Hills area included 581 out of Pennington County, where 45 of those were listed as probable.

Meade County added an additional 115 total new cases with 10 of those probable; and Lawrence County tallied 88 new cases with 2 of those probable.

Elsewhere, Butte County added 42 new cases, Custer County had 28, Fall River  County showed 25 and Oglala Lakota County reported 17.
