Juvenile killed in Gregory County crash

BURKE, S.D. – A Burke juvenile male has been identified as the person who died Friday night in a two-vehicle crash east of Burke.

A 1996 Chrysler Eagle Vision was eastbound on South Dakota Highway 18 when it crossed the center line and collided head on with a westbound 2012 Dodge Ram 2500 pickup pulling a flatbed trailer.

Zane Goitia, 16, was driving the Chrysler and was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing a seatbelt.

Sustaining life-threatening injuries was Kaycee Martin of Burke, the 29-year-old male driver of the pickup. He was transferred by ambulance to the Burke hospital and then airlifted to a Sioux Falls hospital.

The two drivers were the only people involved in the crash.

South Dakota’s Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash.
