Kadoka, Hot Springs Schools go to online learning due to COVID-19 cases

KADOKA, S.D. – Kadoka is the latest West River school district to temporarily close due to COVID-19.

The district on Wednesday announced in a Facebook post that it was closing its elementary, middle and high school on Thursday to deep clean after a positive case of COVID-19 was discovered.

The post also states school will remain in session at Interior, Long Valley and Midland.

Parent-teacher conferences will be still be held at scheduled.

Kadoka joins Hot Springs in announcing COVID-19 closures. Hot Springs announced Tuesday in a Facebook Post that it was going to online learning for the rest of the week.

The post cites an increase in the number of positive COVID-19 cases and “the potential exposure and close contact of other students and staff” as the reason for switching to online learning this Wednesday and Thursday.

Custodial staff will be deep cleaning all classrooms during the closure.

The district will evaluate information from the rest of the week before sending students back to the classroom — but the current plan is to return to Tier 2 on Monday, Oct. 12.
