Landry Haugen wins South Dakota girl’s cutting championship

PIERRE, S.D. – Landry Haugen of Sturgis won the South Dakota Girl’s Cutting title as the South Dakota High School State Rodeo Finals began in Pierre.

Haugen finished with a top score of 82.50.

With the win, she qualifies for the National High School Rodeo Finals. She will be joined by Sydney Stahl of Kimball, Tava Sexton of Whitewood and Piper Hanson of Burke on team South Dakota.

Haugen will also compete at the National Finals after finishing second in the Reined Cow Horse. The state champion in the event is Dallie Lawrence of Alzada. Chase Brunsch of Pine Ridge and Ryan Sheppick of Pierre will join Haugen and Lawrence on the National team.

And winning the state title in Boy’s Cutting was Caden Stoddard of Norris with a top score of 78. Cody Dirkes of Hermosa was second and Cabe Glines of Smithwick was third. Finishing in fourth, and joining the top three on the National Team is Braden Routier of Buffalo.

The South Dakota High School State Rodeo Finals continues in Pierre Thursday into the weekend.
